The Observatory of Spanish in Europe organizes and coordinates academic activities that promote research, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration surrounding the Spanish language in Europe. Below are the main events held in recent years.
2026
May · Heidelberg, Germany.
Meeting between the Observatory of Spanish in Europe and the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (IDS).
The objective was to strengthen academic collaboration between both institutions.
April · Heidelberg, Germany.
Jornadas didácticas for teachers of ELE/EL2 at Heidelberg University.
The Jornadas, organized together with the publishing houses Difusión and Ernst Klett, featured four plenary presentations and a panel discussion dedicated to current topics in the field of ELE/EL2.
April · Szczecin, Poland.
The conference “BIP: Gramática contrastiva: lenguas eslavas occidentales – español”.
Prof. Óscar Loureda and Dr. Pilar Valero conducted the seminar “El español en Europa”.
2024
December · La Rioja, Spain.
Network meeting and the international seminar “El español en Europa”.
The event brought together specialists from various European universities to discuss the status and dynamics of Spanish in Europe.

The knowledge transfer workshop “Policy Briefs”.
The workshop, funded by Field of Focus 3 (FoF3), promoted the exchange of knowledge regarding heritage Spanish, new profiles of Spanish speakers, and Spanish in the European workplace.
